As mentioned earlier, we spent our last hours in Maryland at Steve and Rob's delightful establishment! Here is their website with a link to his world-class biscuits, and you can see from the picture they are phenomenal!
Also note that Chef Steve has been on several baking contest shows! Coming up is Food Network's Haunted Gingerbread Showdown which begins Sunday, October 7th at 10:00pm! https://www.foodnetwork.com/shows/haunted-gingerbread-showdown
Every morning from 7-10am, the Gathering Place at the Mt. Desert Campground serves coffee and homemade pastries. I failed to stop by until the last day, and discovered the most wonderful blueberry scones. Add to that some coffee cakes, and you have culinary heaven.
This is Phil at the campground. Here is a link to the bakery FB page https://www.facebook.com/mountdessertbakery/ and to a similar recipe from King Arthur flour!
This gem was highly recommended for their pies. Sadly, we weren't in love with the custards. Their homemade turkey and gravy was stellar. Their story:
"In 1927, it looked as though Waldoboro, Maine might be getting some automobile traffic from folks headed north up US Route 1.
Now, ninety years later, we are very pleased to have served over a million people in our motel and diner. We have... 18 cabins and rooms and a 104-seat diner that has become a national icon, featured in magazines and on television shows around the world."
It's hard to find anything more quintessentially Baltimore than Johnny Dee's Lounge, just off Loch Raven Blvd. We are back near the city for a few days, and just wanted some good food and company. These fine gentleman offered laughter and connections to the past, and the food was wonderful! Thanks to Henry and staff for a wonderful evening. Pictured here are some of the "regulars", Mark Cala, Executive Chef from the Hillendale County Club (right) and Will Shanklin Jr. of Shanklin Media (center). The fellow on the left graciously joined in for the photo but I didn't catch his name. He said he was "a nobody" when I asked him, but I am quite sure he is a special person: he represents all that is good about my hometown. Click below for a link to their FB page!
